Rose Quartz Stone.

Rose Quartz stone ranges in colour from a very pale pink to a rose red hue, it is mainly transparent to translucent, with a vitreous lustre. It is usually available in rough chunks or polished pieces, as it rarely forms defined crystals. Rose Quartz belongs to the macrocrystalline Quartz family, has a Mohs hardness of seven, and its colouration is due to the presence of trace amounts of titanium, iron, or manganese. Polished Rose Quartz often displays a chatoyancy (cat’s eye) effect, or asterism (6-pointed star), that is created by included microscopic titanium crystals.

As a gemstone you will find it cut as cabochons and some of the more transparent material may be faceted. Rose quartz is also a very attractive ornamental stone and is carved into spheres, figurines and ornate statues.
